Inspiration!

For a while now, I've been meaning to get more self-sufficient with my family. My husband and I have been aware that the food from the supermarket is lacking in nutrients and quality for a while now. Changing our way of feeding ourselves has been a long process - but certainly starting to bear fruit. Illness has gone down - energy has gone up.

And now we have a little girl. This is such a motivation to improve our standards even more. We have been playing around with the idea of being self sufficient in our food supply for a while (say years) now. This is more easily dreamt than done.

We bought a house not to long ago. Main reason being that we didn't want our little one to grow up amongst the blatantly ignorant in the neighbourhood where we lived. Ignorant in so many ways, but that is for another blog. Really. Don't get me started.

So now we have this house in a nice neighbourhood. Not a farm by any means (I mean seriously - it's in the centre of a village and at the end of a row of houses. We are on the corner though. Meaning bigger!) - but a good piece of land attached to it. Our back garden is about 25 x 11 meters. We have a good sized garage with a driveway which will fit 4 cars snugly. We also have a front garden of about 7 x 5 meters. The garden is in poor state and in desperate need of a loving green hand. I hope that can be mine ;)

Yesterday I watched Alys Fowler on youtube. This woman is a writer and gardener and has my dream garden. Living in the city hers is pretty small compared to mine and she still managed to create a edible garden which provides her with enough fresh organic food almost year-round. And so my inspiration got fired up. I had trouble conceiving a concrete plan for my garden - and mind you - I still do. But I don't care any more. Ill just start and see where I'll end up!

So thank you Alys for inspiring me!
